A Silent Voice Complete Series Box Set Yoshitoki Oima 9781632366436 Books Reviews

  • I REALLY want to give this five stars (since the story itself is one of the greatest I've ever read). But I have to ding three stars because the box set itself was in awful shape. There were several things wrong with it when I got it

    1) Two of the books in the set had damaged covers. One cover was bent. And one book had a large cut in it's cover & it's first two pages (it looked like the book got sliced with a box cutter).

    2) Book #2 in this set had a printing error. The wrong pages were placed near the end of the story. It went from the scene where Shoya and Yuzuru were looking for Shoko and then the next page suddenly had Shoya arguing with Naoka. I know this was an error because that exact scene with Naoka appears in a later volume. So I ended up missing out on at least one chapter in Book#2 because it wasn't printed correctly. I've thought about buying another copy of the second book to replace it. But I don't know if this defect is present on other physical copies sold on . So I'm afraid to try buying a new one to complete my set

It made me wonder if these box sets were just put together to get rid of defective copies of the manga. Which is a shame because an amazing series like this deserves better.

One good thing I will say is that the extras (Shoko's notebook and the poster) are great and they were some of the few items in this set that weren't marred by printing errors and box-cutter slices. Also, I enjoyed the series immensely despite the fact that two of my books were damaged and I missed out on the last half of Book#2 due to the printing error.
  • Fantastic manga, great story. I highly recommend this if you enjoyed the anime Your Lie in April. The story addresses darker elements and focuses on the effects of bullying.
  • I was so excited to buy this after reading the one shot! I just started it and it’s good so far.

Granted I work at a print shop and would notice this, but the cutting on the pages is a bit off in my copy of volume 1. Some of the frames at the top are trimmed down too much. Also, my copy of volume 6 doesn’t have a high gloss coating on the cover. But, for the most part, I’m excited to read the series and I’m glad I have it now.
  • Wonderful books. They have a great message for tweens and teens. My son asked me to read these books after he read them. I did so and then after each book we had a little book club meeting to discuss them. It allowed me to see where his mind was in regards to these issues. We were able to discuss the many different ways to deal with these situations. They are written more like a comic book, but don't let that fool you in thinking there is no message to be had. It was also fun to read a book in a different way than a book in the U.S. I loved having the platform to discussing the issues the series presents for tweens and teen.
  • This was my first order from . As I love to read manga of special stories and also get some cost friendly offer, it was perfect for me.

    Pros
    # All in one package. You will be getting all the volumes at once. Also in a very cheap price.

    # It contains a nice poster. Though there are thin lines of folding at the middle of the poster, it's really great overall.

    # Shoko's notebook. All the people who loves to have collectibles will love this. It contains the lines from her first appearance in the class.

    # The box is also good looking and contains the book very firmly.

    Cons

    # Because the box is heavy, it may have dent at the corners. Mine had too. But I guess it's a tradeoff and nothing serious to cry over.

Overall, I will love to buy more box sets of mangas in future.
  • "may contain some spoiler alert"

it is a great series. it came with collectors box and a little notebook and a small poster. it was a sweet and caring anime series. were a bully gets what was coming to him and he spend his later years making what was right. it basically shows what you do now could affect you in the future. from picking on some one to choices we make. this may be one part of the story. please read before you see the anime movie. it is a good life lesson to learn and have anyone to read and or watch.
  • I got my set yesterday and have been reading it after seeing the film... which I can't wait until they release the English Dub on DVD/Blu Ray. This series is so touching... beautifully written and thoughtful. I'm already wishing the movie could have been even longer to include all the details in the manga. I saw there was an issue with someone's set, but mine was fine and there are no errors. They might have gotten a misprint or they improved the quality since then. Shoko's notebook and the poster are a really sweet bonus and the box the books come in is lovely for displaying.
  • If I were to describe A Silent Voice, I'd say it's a masterpiece. This manga is one of, if not, the best manga series I've read. Oima-sensei has crafted a beautiful, heart-warming story about the ugly side of bullying, suicide and rejection, along with redemption, forgiveness and acceptance. The characters are flawed, working hard to overcome their own mistakes, weaknesses, fears, regrets; which makes them all the more real and grounded.
The box set is beautiful, the books fit nicely well inside. The only issue I have is how some of the books came with defects. Despite that it comes covered with a sealed plastic bag, they're some slight dents and rips on the corners along the spine.
Overall, I'm quite happy to own the complete set. A Silent Voice is a beautiful story that I believe everyone should read.
